Post Overdose Response Team

Reidsville Police Department and Community Service Providers Launch Post Overdose Response Team
The Reidsville Police Department has partnered with organizations throughout the community to formulate a Post Overdose Response Team (PORT) as a response to the rising opioid crisis. Over the past several years, the Reidsville Police Department has noticed a significant increase in opioid related overdose statistics; from year 2017 to 2019 there has been a 119% increase in overdoses. The opioid crisis is a source of concern both nationally and locally.

PORT is comprised of Integrated Health Care Services of Rockingham County, Daymark Recovery Services, and the Reidsville Police Department. The purpose of this team is to assist the victims of overdose and aid them along the road to recovery. The team will respond to the victims of overdose within a 48 to 72 hour window and offer services to the victims and their families. PORT will begin responding July 1, 2020.

“We are fortunate to have the resources and community support within our city and county to assist citizens seeking help to fight their addiction.  We realize that all of these individuals may not seek assistance for a variety of reasons. Now, through the Post Overdose Response Team, the service providers will be responding directly to individuals in crisis. Our objective and mission of PORT is to get help to those in crisis, reduce the number of overdoses, and related deaths in Reidsville,” said Chief Robert Hassell.
